Drowning in a Funk

Written 06/03/2019

Lyrics

You think you’re going somewhere but you just fuck up A masterplan will flash before your eyes A lover will come up to you and she’ll ask you for your name But it’s just a game

If life should be that easy, you’d be dead by now Every moment dull and all the same You dance in a spot by her side and you try to catch her eye But it all goes by

And it feels just like you’re drowning In a pool you’ve made yourself Full of your vision your thoughts and your hate Acting as something for you to berate By the time that you have got it The ship will have sailed and crashed and sunk You’re dying, sinking, flailing You’re drowning in a funk

If little things could kill, you’d be dead by now Another accrual to your list She kisses a man at the front and she’s leaving in his arms Does it make you sick?

Elementary my dear lady Could you add another scar? All this shit it just means nothing Can’t afford to run a car If she loved me she would want me Let’s go back and drink the bar Find out later if you mean to Push it till it’s gone too far

Background

The flipside to anxiety is the anger caused by watching the efforts you never grasped, used and the fruits of the work taken by someone more able.

This song is a pop rock anthem to the original riff I discovered as a teeager with pretty much the same aggressive melody for its verse from that moment.
